EMILY STOKER COVER LETTER
Dear Johnny,
I am writing to you with a spontaneous application. I hope that one day you will be in need of a profile like mine for a production, and you may be able to offer me the opportunity to apply.
My professional ambitions lie in documentary and journalistic filmmaking. This is reflected in my personal projects, such as A Story About Israel (film here) and (extra)Ordinary Women (trailer here). This interest is equally evident through my client work, much of which takes the shape of impact films that I create for non-profits. I often work on these video productions singlehandedly through pre-production, filming and editing (including some motion graphic skills). I sometimes take on a small team of freelancers to help me with my work when client budgets allow.
I built my experience as a freelancer while living abroad, often working in different cultures and languages. I started freelancing as a social media manager in Italy with an Italian agency, and progressed my independent work to filmmaking with clients in many countries when I moved to Brussels, Belgium in 2018. This has made me even more curious about world cultures, and particularly adaptable when producing pieces abroad or working in new teams
My language skills and knowledge of working in foreign cultures has proved useful for my own projects, and TV broadcast productions where I have acted as Assistant Producer to put together shoots on location. I am fluent in French and Italian and speak Portuguese and Spanish to an intermediate level. I hope to reach fluency in Portuguese and Spanish in the next two years.
Since moving to London at the start of 2020, I have been working on expanding my work in a journalistic context. I started an arrangement working with the renowned journalistic membership club The Frontline Club on their video presence in March 2020. This was unfortunately cut short by Covid. Before being furloughed I presented a pitch to the management team on how the club could take their events programme online, which they adopted throughout lockdown.
I am actively seeking opportunities where I can learn from those in the field. I particularly want to carry out more journalistic and documentary-based work. I also have references available upon request (including my director from my broadcast work, my line manager from the Frontline Club, or other previous video production clients).
I hope you will agree that I would be a strong asset to a production team. Please do not hesitate to keep me in mind if you think I could be a good fit for any upcoming projects in any context now or in the future.
Yours Sincerely,
Emily Stoker
