REMOTE VIDEO PRODUCTION

Times are different, and we’re not sure what the route to the new normal will look like.

Yet now more than ever, non-profits and businesses need to communicate effectively; whether it’s for an online campaign, or a funding application.

Videos are still a powerful way to communicate your story, and it’s still possible to use them… they just need to be produced a little differently.

Remote video production, or “socially distanced” video production is a great way to tell your story without having a filmmaker physically on site.

Together we will build a video concept that will address and meet your goals. Remote video production relies on self-shot multimedia, media files from your association’s archive, stock footage, and/or animated graphics. I instruct participants how to film the best quality video possible with the equipment they already have, and coordinate the collection of consent forms and multimedia materials before editing everything into a beautiful video at the end. I can even help to consult you on your distribution strategy.

 Case Study: Don’t Drop Music

The brief

Wiltshire Music Connect wanted to produce a shareable video to promote their campaign Don’t Drop Music, which would promote the importance and availability of music lessons during the aftermath of Covid-19.

The client wanted to commission a new arrangement for the soundtrack which would be performed by a pool of their freelance music tutors. Everything had to be produced remotely due to social distancing.

The solution

Through consultation with the client, the following was agreed as the best solution to spread awareness of the campaign:

·      Short video aimed at parents including:

o   Clear copy & call to action

o   Graphics in line with charity branding, and other visuals showing music tutors playing

o   Multimedia of children to appeal to parents & children

The process

There were just over three weeks between the client reaching out to me and when the project needed to be delivered. Here are some of the main steps I contributed in the production process in my role as assistant producer, director and editor:

  • Consulting on media law. This included choice of music for arrangement, and managing collection of consent forms for under-18s participating.

  • Storyboarding presenting a cohesive story in the early stages. This informed a clear list of materials that needed to be gathered.

  • Training & instructing participants on filming with the equipment they had at home to fit the style & quality of the piece.

  • Coordinating submissions including 20+ video & other multimedia submissions from contributing musicians and children, and graphic elements.

  • Editing everything into a cohesive story, including animation of graphics.

The result

After publishing the video on the Wiltshire Music Connect Facebook page, it had 2,500 views and 66 shares in the first day alone. Their Facebook page had under 320 likes at the time. That’s means more than 7x the number of people who follow their Facebook page saw it in the first day alone, and an equivalent of 20% of their followers shared it with their network.
